Community Impact

At Wawanesa, community is the essence of who we are.

Our community impact program invested over $1.2 million dollars from 2020 through 2023 to local and national partner organizations across the United States. Our program is rooted in Wawanesa's purpose, to look after one another. It also exemplifies our vision of building together a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future for our members and communities.

We’re working to build more resilient communities

A variety of company-led programs deepen our impact in the communities where Wawanesa members and employees live and work.

My Community Day

Every year, employees receive paid time off from work to give back to their local community and earn a $100 Community Impact Gift Card by using their time to donate to a charity or non-profit organization of their choice.

United Way Campaign

Our annual United Way campaign supports local community organizations by bringing together employees across the company. With Wawanesa’s donation matching program every contribution is doubled to make an even greater impact.

My Community Day: Employee Stories

On My Community Day, I spent my time volunteering at Balboa Park with some of my teammates, where we planted new trees. It felt incredibly rewarding and cool to know that I had a hand in planting a tree in such a beautiful and historic location in San Diego.

During My Community Day, I volunteered at the San Diego Food Bank alongside other Wawanesa teammates, bagging apples for pick up. It was truly an honor to support such an amazing and worthy organization.

On My Community Day, I volunteered at The Princess Project. We helped organize the dresses for high school students in the San Diego area, ensuring they have access to prom attire at no cost. It was a truly fulfilling experience.

For My Community Day, I volunteered to ring the bell for the Fort Collins Salvation Army. I helped raise, over $300 in donations, that directly benefit the community. Despite feeling cold and sore by day's end, I found satisfaction in supporting the Salvation Army’s efforts.

This year, on My Community Day, I attended an American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Expo to learn how to run AYSO Tournaments and ensure kids' safety. I dedicate a lot of my free time to AYSO to provide quality programs for kids and I'm thankful I can use my volunteer day to help this organization instead of my paid time off.

Our Commitment to Community Through Volunteerism

The San Diego Food Bank has been a longstanding partner, with many of our employees volunteering over the years. Together, we've sorted and packaged food donations, contributing to various community programs. This reflects our commitment to teamwork and giving back to our local communities.
