We're prioritizing efforts to strengthen climate resilience, both in our industry and the communities we care about. Our commitment is to help build a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future for everyone. We're here to help our members and communities not only adapt to the changing climate but also work together to prevent its impacts.
Sustainability
We know that people today, especially those considering a career with us, want to work for a company that takes its environmental and social responsibilities seriously – and we do. Here's a few examples of our sustainability work:
Sustainability Stories
Sustainability Stories
We keep sustainability front and center year-round with fun and engaging stories on our intranet. For example, our 2023 Earth Day article dove into hybrid and electric vehicles, spotlighting the benefits of going green in our fleet, and even featured a Q&A with one of our own employees about their experience driving an electric car. Plus, we got our employees involved with a “Go Green” contest—where the prize was national park passes.
Going Paperless
Going Paperless
We're making eco-friendly choices by transitioning from paper-based processes to electronic ones. One example is our new expense management system that's faster, easier, and paper-free. And, to top it off, we donated our company credit card points to Tree Canada, helping to plant 9,200 trees.
Sustainability in Claims
Sustainability in Claims
We've reimagined our claims process to be more eco-friendly. Using tablets, special software, and electronic funds transfer (EFT), we've significantly reduced paper use at almost every stage. Plus, we're reducing waste by repairing rather than replacing materials like siding, windows, and floors wherever we can.
Sustainable Procurement
Sustainable Procurement
When it comes to sourcing products and services, we're committed to working with suppliers who meet our social, environmental, and ethical standards. It's all part of ensuring that sustainability runs through everything we do.
Sustainability in our offices
Sustainability in our offices
Our team was deliberate about incorporating sustainability into the design, construction and operation of our new national headquarters in Winnipeg – built to achieve LEED Gold certification. Many of the environmentally friendly features are now a standard in all office locations across Canada like compost and recycling options, for example.
Supporting sustainability and those in need
As part of our sustainability efforts in our new headquarters in Winnipeg, we partnered with the non-profit organization Second Harvest. This allows us the opportunity to donate surplus food from our café and get it to the people in the community who need it. Second Harvest is Canada's largest food rescue organization and is a global thought leader on perishable food redistribution.
This food rescue process ensures good surplus food isn't being wasted but instead collected and redistributed to feed people in need. Our partnership with Second Harvest will help decrease the amount of edible food going to waste, which in turn averts the release of greenhouse gases creating lasting positive change for our communities and our planet.
