At Wawanesa, we offer endless career opportunities. We recognize that to support our employees in today's insurance industry – which is dynamic, innovative, and ever-changing – we need to find and create opportunities to build long-term careers.

We're deeply committed to supporting your career development every step of the way. We understand the path to success is different for everyone and want to help you find and follow the career trajectory that's right for you. Whether you're just starting out or looking to take your skills to the next level, we provide the tools, resources, and opportunities you need to thrive.

If you're looking for a company that invests in your future and values your development, Wawanesa is the place where you belong.

It all starts with Onboarding

Your career journey at Wawanesa starts with the Onboarding process. It's the first training you'll do as a new employee and includes:

  • A consistent, centralized framework focused on connection
  • Relationship-building opportunities through our “buddy” program
  • Hybrid orientation sessions for new leaders and employees
  • A mix of e-learnings, hybrid sessions, handbooks, and many other resources

The orientation sessions for new employees include an introduction to our benefits, organization strategy, including member experience and sustainability, to help set you up for success in your new role.

Goal setting at Wawanesa

Our annual goal setting and performance process helps leaders and their employees align on work expectations, set stretch goals and focus on continuous growth. It emphasizes regular check-ins to ensure employees have meaningful performance and career conversations throughout the year. We encourage our employees to be the architects of their own success stories, empowered by access to programs, resources and tools crafted to nurture their talents and ambitions.

Wawanesa University: Learn, grow, thrive

This is our home for learning, career growth and talent development for employees. It includes everything our employees need to connect to career opportunities and expand their knowledge, all in one place. Wawanesa University isn't just about training. It cultivates our best employee experience from sourcing, hiring, onboarding, developing, managing, promoting and investing in talent.

We offer blended learning (both in-person and virtual), experiential learning, coaching, mentoring and networking opportunities.

Success Profiles

Considered “signpost” along a career path, Success Profiles help employees understand what it takes to progress to other roles in the company and identify what development and experience is required to make that journey. They also help leaders to have more robust career conversations with employees and help them grow their careers.

Learning and Education Assistance Program (LEAP)

This program supports employees who work at least 22.5 hours a week with financial support for external learning and programs aligned with their development plans and current or future roles. Some of the benefits of the LEAP program include 100% education reimbursements for approved insurance related courses and designations, time off to study and take exams, and more.

DEIB Curriculum

We offer a comprehensive curriculum of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) training to our employees that includes content on DEIB Fundamentals, Unconscious Bias, Microaggressions and Allyship.

Specialized training for specialized roles

We also provide in-house programs and workshops to support our people who work in areas that require specialized skills, like our Actuarial or Claims teams.

Leadership development programming

Leaders play a significant role in the overall employee experience, and they're also an important part of attracting, developing and retaining great people. Here are some examples of the development we offer our leaders:

Leadership Connect Series

This series brings together leaders at all levels to share and discuss challenges they are dealing with. Each conversation is supported with tools, resources, and learning to help them continue to develop and grow as leaders. Recent topics included team effectiveness while navigating change, leading engaged teams and inclusive leadership.

Aspiring Leaders Program

This program targets high-performing individual contributors who have expressed interest in – or have been identified as a strong candidate for – leadership or roles with expanded leadership responsibilities.

Certified to Lead

Our blended learning experience is designed for leaders at all levels. Its programs combine virtual, instructor-led sessions, and self-paced learning that focus on people-first leadership. Through this program, leaders connect and collaborate with other leaders across Wawanesa to deepen their learning.

Dedicated leader resources

Leaders have access to many different resources. In addition to specific resources within Wawanesa University, they have their own Leader Hub to support their development as they lead effective teams.
