Our values guide everything we do. They shape how we treat one another and how we do business. We pride ourselves on being open, fair, and collaborative. For over 128 years, we've stuck to these principles – ever since 20 farmers in the small village of Wawanesa, Manitoba came together to create something different – a mutual insurance company, where the goal wasn't just profit, but community. They promised to share the risk so that no one would be left destitute if disaster struck, like a fire destroying a farmer's thresher.

Today, we're proud to operate as Canada's largest mutual insurance company, where every dollar we collect goes right back into paying claims, keeping our rates fair, and creating products that our members need. We serve more than 1.7 million members nationwide – alongside our Life company and subsidiary Western Financial Group – offering business, farm, home, life and group and auto insurance. Our Winnipeg headquarters

In March 2024, we officially opened our new national headquarters in downtown Winnipeg. Built specifically for Wawanesa, our 21-storey, environmentally sustainable headquarters features nearly 350,000 square feet of leading-edge workspace for our employees.

Our new headquarters was built to accommodate our growing workforce, which doubled in size over the last decade. The building also brings together employees – previously spread across eight different office locations in Winnipeg – together under one roof. Today, nearly a third of our Wawanesa employees work at our headquarters in Winnipeg.

This state-of-the-art building includes all the amenities you read about above, plus more:

  • A floor for large meetings, townhalls, and multi-group functions, offering panoramic views of the prairie skyline
  • A training and development floor, with state-of-the-art technology and exhibits of Wawanesa's history
  • A café on-site with healthy food options and compostable serving-ware, consistent with the company's focus on environmental sustainability
  • A health & wellness floor, known as the Oak Wellness Centre, with fitness equipment, wellness consultation rooms, and fitness studio for exercise classes
  • Connection to the buzz and excitement of True North Square – a collection of mixed-use buildings and a gathering place in the city's downtown centre – as well as Winnipeg's skywalk system, offering easy access to the city's vibrant culture and amenities
