Wawanesa Toy Drive helps brighten the holidays for thousands of kids across Canada
Wawanesa Insurance, together with independent insurance brokers and the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), collected over 11,100 toys and more than $28,000 in cash donations for charities across Canada.
Winnipeg, MB, December 17, 2019 – From October 30 to December 15, Wawanesa Insurance hosted 36 holiday toy drives across Canada. People were encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to one of 36 participating CHL games or to one of 208 participating independent insurance broker locations. All toys and cash collected were donated to local charities in each community.
“We are overwhelmed by the immense generosity of Canadians, who welcomed us into their communities and helped spread so much holiday cheer for families and kids,” said Selena Hinds, Vice President of Brand, Communications and Community for Wawanesa Insurance. “From Charlottetown to Victoria, Chicoutimi to Medicine Hat, thank you to everyone who made a donation and thank you to the many volunteers who made this cross-country effort a success.”
Wawanesa, its local insurance broker partners, and 36 local charities worked together to collect and distribute more than 11,100 toys to families and kids in each community.
“It was an honour to be a charity partner of the Wawanesa Toy Drive, which serves as a great example of people and businesses coming together to make our community better,” said Mark Breslauer, CEO, United Way Greater Victoria. “Thanks to everyone who volunteered with the toy drive and the generosity of our community, more children and families will have a brighter holiday season.”
As a thank-you for donating, Wawanesa Insurance entered all toy drive donors into a Grand Prize draw for a trip for two to Kelowna for this year’s Memorial Cup Presented by Kia. Toy Drive donors were also entered to win regional prizes of signed CHL team jerseys and game tickets. The grand prize draw takes place January 15, 2020.
Wawanesa Insurance is a proud partner of the CHL and the Official Auto and Home Insurer of the CHL. For a full list of toy drive communities, complete contest rules, and to see photos and videos from this year’s Wawanesa Toy Drive, visit: wawanesa.com/toydrive.
