Declaration of Emergency Endorsement (lifted as of June 30, 2016)
Wawanesa is stopping lapse and cancellation notices for policyholders affected by the Fort McMurray wildfire.
As some lapse and cancellation notices for non-payment or non-renewal have already been sent, it is our intention to hold coverage for our Personal, Commercial and Farm Property policies in accordance with the Declaration of Emergency Endorsement. This will provide our policyholders with an extended period of time in which to make their premium payments.
As a policyholder-focused company, we will also be applying the principles of the Declaration of Emergency Endorsement to our Automobile policies to ensure equitable treatment for all.
There need not be an insured peril for this endorsement to be invoked. Therefore, we are acknowledging and activating it in response to this unprecedented event. It will apply if either you or your broker’s office is affected by the ongoing events.
Please be advised that:
- Your printed documents will be issued as usual. Canada Post will redirect mail for the affected area to a pick up location for residents to retrieve. Please refer to Canada Post’s Service Alert page for more details.
- Wawanesa brokers can retrieve digital copies of your documents, if necessary. If your broker has been affected by the wildfire, visit wawanesa.com/findabroker to contact a broker in the area.
- You can make credit card payments online at wawanesa.com/myaccount or use online or telephone banking through your financial institution.
- We will not cancel policies or charge non-sufficient fund (NSF) fees for any payment that cannot be made due to a lack of funds available in your account.
Will will update this news item as timelines develop and the immediate crisis has passed.
