Mandatory coverages
There are mandatory coverages required by law for all registered vehicles that are used on public roads. In Alberta, it is mandatory for vehicle owners and drivers to have Third Party Liability coverage for Bodily Injury and Property Damage and Accident Benefits coverage. Covering the costs of injuries from car accidents
What happens if you get into a collision with someone who doesn't have enough insurance to cover the cost of an injury that you, or your family member, sustained in the accident? What can you do to protect yourself and those closest to you?
Family Protection coverage is added to protect you and members of your household for bodily injury or death in the event of a vehicle accident with someone else who does not carry enough insurance to pay for your injuries — also known as an under-insured third party driver.
With this coverage, you will be able to claim the difference between the amount of coverage the other driver carries and the amount of coverage you have purchased on your own policy. This coverage is added automatically to all vehicles that carry third party liability and accident benefits.
