Wawanesa's Residential, Auto Insurance Now Available Exclusively Through Insurance Brokers in Quebec

MONTREAL (QC) October 1, 2018 – Wawanesa announced today that their insurance products in Quebec are now available exclusively through independent insurance brokers.

Wawanesa has transitioned from a direct to consumer sales model to a broker distribution model in Quebec. Consistent with how they distribute insurance products in other Canadian provincial markets, Wawanesa’s property and casualty insurance products in Quebec are now sold and serviced through a group of independent brokers. Wawanesa will also be introducing commercial insurance products to the Quebec market through their new broker partners.

Wawanesa’s new broker partners are 11 independently owned and operated insurance brokerages located in communities across Quebec, in close proximity to existing Wawanesa policyholders. These brokers have assumed the distribution of Wawanesa’s products in Quebec, and each has an exclusive territory for their servicing of Wawanesa customers.

Wawanesa’s new broker partners include AMR Assurances Multi-Risques, Assurancia Venne et Fille, Assurancia Gatineau, Bilodeau Couture Assurances, Bouchard & Associés Solutions d’assurances, Fort Assurances & Avantages Sociaux, Gaudreau Assurances, Gosselin Courtiers d’Assurances, Groupe LCD Assurances, Le Groupe LePelco, and Assurances 3G.

A number of Wawanesa’s service offices in Quebec will be converted to brokerage locations as part of the transition.

“Wawanesa strongly believes that independent brokers are best positioned to deliver advice and advocacy to customers,” said Carol Jardine, President of Wawanesa’s Canadian Property & Casualty Operations. “Our partnership and investment in brokers is central to our success across Canada and we’re proud to be the largest national property and casualty insurer fully committed to Canada’s insurance brokers.”

“Wawanesa is a well-recognized and highly respected insurer that has been in Quebec for nearly 90 years,” said Fort Insurance & Group Benefits President Stéphan Bernatchez. “Wawanesa is a mutual company driven by values and we are excited to be one of the brokerages with the exclusive opportunity to represent Wawanesa products in Quebec.”

The companies noted the transition will be seamless for current policyholders. There are no changes to policyholders’ current insurance policies or current insurance coverage. Claims, underwriting and administrative activities will continue at the Quebec Regional Office in Montreal. Wawanesa policyholders will receive individual communication regarding the transition and their servicing. The companies will communicate directly with current Wawanesa policyholders regarding the transition in their servicing.

This Quebec transition builds on Wawanesa’s longstanding commitment to the broker channel. While other national insurers have grown their direct distribution capabilities, Wawanesa has doubled down on the broker channel, and is proud of their investment in Canada’s insurance brokers and will continue to support their broker partners in every one of their Canadian regions. With the transition in Quebec, Wawanesa affirms its position as the largest property and casualty insurance provider solely dedicated to distribution through local insurance brokers. Wawanesa products are available exclusively through insurance brokers in all of the company’s Canadian markets.

Wawanesa began operations in Quebec in 1931. To date, the company has written over two million insurance policies in Quebec and supports more than 45 Quebec charities and community organizations each year.
